Dealing with the social media message avalanche

When social media tools are launched to support the activities of enterprises the most frequently heard complaint is that people will be overwhelmed by an avalanche of messages. This article reviews the problem and suggests how a company can make sure employees aren’t inundated.

Book review: The executive guide to enterprise social media

I just read the Executive’s Guide to Enterprise Social Media Strategy by Thomas and Barlow. It is easy to read, sometimes amusing, and it lays out the social media landscape nicely.

Who should read it?
This book will be useful for people who need to be introduced to the subject and be convinced of the business potential of ESM.

Who should buy it?
If you’re convinced that your company can benefit from enterprise social media but your management isn’t, then buy the book for them. It will help your formulate your case and convince them when read the book.

What’s good about it?
This is one of the few books that cover the full scope of the subject. Most books focus on using social media as a new tool for marketing and PR to push your message, or to use it for co-creation. This book also shows you how it can improve performance across many dimensions of your company. Continue reading

Or could some knowledge reside elsewhere in the company, outside this tight-nit group? With IT perhaps? Or maybe in marketing? Or even with a supplier? Or maybe even with your customers, after all they use your product on a daily basis. Continue reading
